I match sales and marketing professionals with world class laboratory companies. I make the connection between business and science. Here you can see how a recruiter works, how this industry runs, and where you fit in (and have others see that fit).

Hi Peggy,

I have real estate and outside sales (advertising) experience. I bought a info product on how to break into this industry which basically said that to find a rep or manager who can pass your resume along or hire you, you should dress professionally, bring your resume and hang out in local hospitals.

When you see someone dressed professionally, approach them and ask if they are in medical sales, start a conversation etc. Do you think this is an effective way to get in front of the correct people?

I can contribute immensely to your purpose. However "how to successfully transition into medical/healthcare/laboratory/pharma sales" is only 10 words to elicit 50 questions.

When I contribute, I seek return and don't gamble on lottery. You can have some of my views to seek refined questions.

1.Sales to all 4 disciplines has altogether different SOP to follow.
2. Sales in any discipline has different hierarchy level of staff
3. Success of sales in some of the disciplines is dependent on positive contribution of support of another department
4. The perspective of question can be from few different aspects : Owner asking questions for Final Interview, HR Manager/Consultant asking qualifying questions, Tele-Interview for shortlisting candidate, or candidate wanting to know all 50 questions possibly asked by their employer
5. How to / Whether to transition debate summons 3 back ground informations. (a) What you doing currently where you are failing/not satisfied (b) What you know about medical field which is luring you to seek transition (c) Why the enquirer thinks that, he/she would be successful in this field

I would end my reply here, congratulating Peggy McKee to initiate such debate here. All the best :)

I am a ChE w/ 15 yrs exp on all scales from lab to plant and across industries. If I were to transition to sales,

1) How would I best market myself, given that I have no sale experience?
2) What should I have on my resume or leave off?
3) How can I have the opportunity to shadow a sales person?
4) Are all sales jobs laden with lots of overnight travel? Or are there some that are just local or work-from-home?
5) Would I be starting at the very bottom in terms of salary, or would I be ahead of those just graduating from college?
