Resume Writing Tips: GPA or no GPA
I get asked fairly frequently whether or not a candidate should include their GPA on their resume, and my answer is this: First of all, it’s only a consideration for recent graduates. If you’ve worked for any length of time, experience trumps education, so that’s what recruiters and hiring managers want to know about. Generally, anything less than a 3.0 is best left off your resume. Out of the last 20 placements we made, only 3 included a GPA, and they were all above a 3.0. Having said that, I ran across an article on how to deal with it if you have a low GPA that might be worth considering: along with your low (-ish) GPA, include with it the (higher) GPA from the science or business classes that directly relate to your career in medical sales, laboratory sales, clinical diagnostics sales, medical device sales, pathology sales, pharmaceutical sales, medical equipment sales, hospital equipment sales, biotechnology sales, molecular or cellular products sales, surgical supplies sales, imaging sales, genetic research laboratory sales, or healthcare sales.
